Will reducing the match length (from 8 to 6)really improve the quality of the games? Is there not a risk that either player wins the first (or second) and then plays solidly thereafter, content to draw the rest of the match games...

I don't mean to put a downer on these efforts and hope we get an interesting match to raise the profile of Nigerian chess...

  3. I have had the announcement on the front page of The Chess Drum for a month to provide maximum exposure. However, the latest postponement for three months brings disappointment.

Postponing an event is almost never a good idea unless neither player is available. The match has been moved twice and the number of games and time control have been changed at different times.

The longer a match is postponed, the greater the possibility that other events will emerge and force additional postponements. March is a long way off and many things can happen.

Let's hope these changes are not a sign that the match is somehow in danger. The African Disapora needs this match to happen.
