REACTION TO THE VMOBILE CHIEF ARBITERS CONTROVERSIAL DECISION AND MORE

BY NM ADEBAYO ADEGBOYEGA

I quite appreciate the concerns of IM Aikhoje. Of course a lot of players have come out as victims of the chief arbiter Eugene seemingly "rash" decisions.

The outcome of the 1999 national championship being a case in point. However the ruling on the Ossai Amadasun game (I presume that is what odion is refering to) was difficult for me to understand:

1. The game has already been concluded.
2. Later reconstruction could not establish the illegal move. So replaying the game sounded absurd.

However i think odion over reacted by not allowing Sharon to play the game "under protest" . As much as we fight for what is right let us fight the right way.

Well put my friend. But let me make two comments;
1. The popular quote goes 'power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely' but there is a continuation of that quote, it says 'there is no heresy worse than the office that sanctifies the holder of the power'. wrong is wrong, period. Allowing the girl to replay the game would have been a very shameful act. The precedent would have been set.
2. Take a look in the Guinness Book of World Records, in the section of human endeavour and achievements I think. You will see a picture of a Chinese student standing in front of a tank in Tianmen Square. Who says human willpower cannot stop a juggernaut?. Not the 'right' way to do things I am sure.
Nuff said, if we like let us keep on accepting bogus decisions in the name of so called 'right methods'.
